Wow, thanks for the list. The only book I’ve read is The Secret History which I rather disliked. I will have to read a few of these, especially those on your list, and give you my thoughts.
Just make sure to skip THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. Oates is short and fierce--her book, I mean. Maxwell is wise, looking-back realism. If you like his writing you can read SO LONG, SEE YOU TOMORROW later. SNOW CRASH is sci-fi/speculative--Stephenson style is fun to read, but it's a longish book. THE ENGLISH PATIENT is terrific, but as I said, its shape isn't easy to follow on a first reading; I loved the film version, you might have a look at that first [not a comment I'd often make]. If you tell what some of your favorite novels are, I can suggest others--I want to push you, but it would be good to know more about what, as they say, floats your boat.
